Strengthening a Machinist Training Program Through TWI Job Instruction

Develop skills of instructing to strengthen your training programs.

A group of experienced Lead Machinists in San Bernardino County, CA completed the Training Within Industry Job Instruction: a pattern that trains employees how to do a job safely, correctly and conscientiously.

Participants apply a method and standard way for teaching others to develop technical skills. As a result, they will have less scrap, rework and rejects; less damage to tools and equipment and fewer accidents. Participants completed weekly coaching to apply this pattern of instruction in their work areas and prepare to train new team members.

This team authored over 44 Job Instruction Breakdowns (JIBs) to create a library of resources they can share in the future to provide good job instruction. These JIBs provide a foundation that each instructor can use to unify the method and bring consistency to on-the-job instruction.

This program is made possible through a partnership between CMTC, and Engage Forward.
