Workforce Development Resources Learn and Apply Toyota’s Improvement Coaching Kata

Chemung-Schuyler-Steuben County Workforce New York, a regional Workforce Development Board and Corning Community College Workforce Education representatives attended a 10-hour course introducing Toyota’s Improvement and Coaching Kata.

Participants are introduced to a starter Kata by learning the four steps of the Improvement Kata:

1.) Get the Direction or Challenge

2.) Grasp the Current Condition

3.) Establish your Next Target Condition

4.) Conduct Experiments to Overcome obstacles on the way to the Target Condition. Learners then practiced the Coaching Kata to support others applying the Improvement Kata in daily practice of working toward achieving goals.

Using an interactive Train-and-do model of instruction, learning is regularly reinforced through simulation activities that allow practice of application.
CSSWFNY is applying the Improvement Kata to a project that strives to improve services to employers.
